The Skincare Routine That is Saving My Skin

I would never say that I have good skin, sure I’m able to keep it at bay and prevent breakouts, but I have always suffered with redness and acne scars that have never seemed to fully fade away - especially around my cheeks. Over the years I have tried so many lotions and potions to sort my skin out but have never really invested the time to create a skincare routine that I could really stick to. Now, after a lot of trial and error, I think I have found a routine that really works for me and is starting to see all my acne scars and redness slowly fade away.

Cleansing

I’m going to start from the ‘beginning’ of the routine, taking off my makeup off in the evening. Not that I’ve ever been bad at removing my makeup, I just never took the time to ensure that my skin was squeaky clean. Since incorporating a proper double-cleanse into my routine I have noticed a big difference. Every night, without fail, you will see me first using the Super Facialist Vitamin C+ Cleansing Oil to remove the bulk of my makeup, and then the Super Facialist Rose Creamy Cleanser to be extra sure that my face is completely clean. I really like this duo on my skin because they are both suited for sensitive skin and leave you feeling super hydrated, not at all like you have just stripped it of all it’s natural oils.

I really love the whole Super Facialist line for being a budget brand that is genuinely good. I tend to stay away from the majority of the typical affordable drugstore brands, purely because I would rather spend a bit more and get a higher quality product with better ingredients (with some exceptions) but most of the Super Facialist products are under £10 and are on-par with some of my higher end products.

Night Routine

After my skin is cleansed and fresh I move onto my nightly skincare routine. I like to keep my night routine pretty simple, this is the time when I want to use an intensive treatment on my skin because I know it has the whole night to sink in and do it’s thing so I’ll normally stick to using between 3 and 4 products.

One product that I recently purchased and largely thank my improving skin for are the Nip & Fab Glycolic Daily Cleansing Pads - again an affordable drugstore brand that I have ended up loving. I have been diligently using one of these pads after cleansing for the past 3 weeks, and ever since using them I have noticed a huge difference in my skin - the acne scars and redness have started to fade away, my skin is a whole lot smoother, and appears a lot brighter than before. Normally these pads come in at just under £14 but they’re almost always on offer at Boots or Superdrug (Boots at the moment) where you can get them at half price. I managed to pick mine up at my local TK Maxx for £4 so it’s worth having a look there too. If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly version to something like the Pixi Glow Tonic, this is definitely a great alternative.

After that I pop a bit of the Beauty Pie Super Eye Energy Eye Cream, because it’s perfectly light-weight and moisturising for overnight. Finally I’ll finish off with the Pai Rosehip Oil, a holy grail product of mine that I don’t think will ever leave my skincare shelves. I feel like the oil and the glycolic pads work really well together, the pads are quite harsh but effective so the oil works to nourish and moisturise my skin while also helping to prevent blemishes and reduce scarring. And that’s it for the night routine, it’s quite minimal but using these super effective products have really been doing the trick.

Morning Routine

The focus of my morning routine is to use products that are gentle and light, that don’t irritate my sensitive skin but create a perfect clean slate for my makeup. This may be terrible but I never have the time to cleanse in the morning, usually because I am running out of the house to get to Uni, but knowing that I did a double-cleanse the night before makes me feel a little better about this. I go in with a cotton pad and the Nuxe Rose Toning Lotion this freshens up and soothes my skin, also doesn’t contain alcohol so it won’t dry my skin out. Then I will use the Beauty Pie Daily Vitamin Defence Serum, which I LOVE and is another product that I owe my improving skin to. Then I’ll just finish off with the same Beauty Pie Eye Cream and my Glossier Priming Moisturiser. Because my skin can get a little oily anyway I like to stay away from anything too heavy in the morning, I don’t want to load up my skin with too much product and then just cover it in makeup.

Additional Products

Finally, I do have some additions that I incorporate into my nighttime and morning routine as and when I feel like it, or need to - that I won’t go into too much detail on. First is the Origins Original Skin Essence, before getting into how good the product is, I adore the smell of it - it’s very fresh and natural smelling, kind of herb-y? It also helps to brighten up the skin and create a more smooth and even base. I have also been loving the Ordinary’s Niacinamide and Zinc Serum and the Glossier Mega Greens Galaxy Pack as products to treat any breakouts. If I have any spots I always go in with a cotton bud and some 100% tea tree oil to clear them up. Finally I like to spray the Pixi Rose Glow Mist before and after makeup to keep that dewy look and keep my makeup looking fresh all day long.
